The Lungarotti Foundation was created in 1987 by Giorgio and Maria Grazia Lungarotti; it is based in Torgiano, a medieval castrum based on Roman ruins on the outskirts of Perugia and Assisi, today widely known for its DOC and DOCG wines. The aim of the foundation was, and is, to formalise the research and study activities related to the artistic and cultural heritage preserved at the MUVIT Wine Museum and, later, also at the MOO Museum of Olive and Oil. In accordance with its statutory laws, the Foundation is committed to the safeguard and enhancement of the existing artistic heritage, in ever developing cooperation with public and private, Italian and international cultural institutions. Its activity develops in the form of exhibitions, conferences, publications, conventions and round tables that have won prestigious international awards, with particular reference to the museographic, historical-artistic, agricultural, wine-making and olive-oil sectors. The Foundation has a specialised library which is open, by appointment, to scholars and those interested in the sector, it is directed by the art historian and archivist Maria Grazia Marchetti Lungarotti.
